General OverviewEdit

Balseraph, home to the now nearly extinct Psyians, was a beacon of aether infused technology. Isolated entirely from the rest of Amaranthine for thousands of years, the inhabitants grew different from the rest of the world, and as such, along with their technology and architectural style. It consisted of smaller underground settlements that gravitated around one central hub.

Technology, and Aether UseEdit

The best way to envision their technology level, at peak, would be to imagine a town without influence by the rest of Amaranthine, and without trade with the rest of Amaranthine yet with many skilled mages, and many skilled engineers. That is to say a very interesting type of advancement, where skill in the more technical of trades, and the more Manipulative works were generally mixed fairly deeply to the point where the two are the same word in the language of the Psyian. In less words, engineers and the like in Balseraph tended to be Manipulators, and vice versa.


While this made the Psyians more advanced in some respects, it also made them weaker in some. Due to a lack of need for mobility, the Psyians had few vehicles besides those that work underground (minecarts and the like). But, due to their lack of strength and a need for clearing out large areas of land underground, they had very effective aether-infused pickaxes and drills. The Psyians also did not have a word for aboveground for many years, to display how much of their time was spent underground.

ReligionEdit

Psyian religion revolves around the number 4, with there being 4 main Serrils (roughly translated as eras, or epochs) that repeat cyclically. The different Serrils each have their own patron God and element, whose power is strongest in that Serril. It should be noted that some of the meanings are metaphorical, along with literal. The notation for the Serrils is Serril <>, and that Serril Peace is the same as Serril Strife, and Serril Prosperity is the same as Serril Poverty e.t.c.


  • Peace, and Strife - This era of time is the first of the four, chronologically. It revolves around the making of society through tribal settlements, and the destruction of weaker tribes to make way for the strong. Fire is the symbolization of this serril.
  • Prosperity, and Poverty - Tribes that survive up until this point start to become cities, and either become rich, or become impoverished. This is said to be the turning point of civilization itself. Water is the symbolization of this serril.
  • Enlightenment, and Ignorance. Or alternatively, that of Those who know, and Those who don't - This part is incredibly vague, with many differing translations. The general backbone of the translations are what the name implies, an era of time where certain knowledge is kept from the general public. Earth is the symbolization of this serril.
  • Judgement - The translation of this serril is very literal, vaguely meaning judgement by a higher being, or by history. Wind is the symbolization of this serril.



Along with the 4 serrils, and the 4 main elements, there are 4 Psyian Gods.

The God of Fire and Ice, Lomare, stands for change, and lack thereof. This God is depicted as a tactical master, a force to be reckoned with. Lomare is said to be impulsive, and angry on occasion.

The God of Water and Sand, Soman, stands for civilization, and lack thereof. While determining the fate of one's personal success in the civilized world, this God is also very calm and hard to phase. It is hinted this God is particularly talkative.

The God of Earth and Void, Homine, stands for scholarly knowledge, and the fate of one's being. It is said this God represents the acceptance of one's fate. It is also said this God is quiet, and not incredibly outgoing.

The God of Wind, Komid, stands for judgement, and factors outside of one's self. The God of Wind is known for being in thought, and planning constantly.


It is suggested in Psyian theology that the aforementioned Gods are rather apathetic in human affairs outside of their domain, preferring not to personally side with favourites, and letting life run its course.


Each God is said to have two angels under their control that are more apt to interfere in human matters than their patron God. And while the angels are not worshipped, they are highly revered.

The Four Lone, also known as the Forlorn - a small group of expertly trained warriors that died defended the Psyian's first official attempt at a trading settlement on a new continent.
